A gift in your will

A gift in your will

Leaving a gift in your Will to the South Downs National Park Trust is a wonderful way to ensure that the South Downs will be protected for future generations to enjoy.

What a gift in your will would achieve

Conserve the landscape and its heritage – We work to improve our Grassland, Heathland and Woodland. These habitats are rare and in decline (for example 80% of chalk grassland has been lost since the Second World War). We want to reverse this trend, restoring these precious habitats for future generations.

Engage people in outdoor learning – Time spent outdoors helps improve health, wellbeing and social interaction. We are working to help thousands of young people develop each year, through hands-on outdoor learning within the National Park.

Improve and Increase walking and cycling routes – National parks provide important breathing spaces and spending time in them can improve people’s lives. We want to make sure everyone can access our National Park, by improving rights of way and establishing new walking and cycle routes.

Support those who care for the Landscape – The South Downs National Park is a living landscape. It is the work of farmers, communities and voluntary organisations that make the National Park a special place. We support those people make a difference to the National Park by co-ordinating, partnering and funding their work.

How do you leave a gift?

There are four types of gifts that may be left in your Will

  • Pecuniary gift – An exact sum of money specified in your Will.
  • Residuary gift – A part of your estate after all expenses and other gifts have been settled
  • Specific Gifts – A particular assets- such as property, shares of an object or work of Art
  • Reversionary gift – A gift of property or assets that is passed to a named individual for enjoyment in their lifetime. On their death the whole or a portion of these assets revert to the beneficiary of the reversionary legacy.
